Handmade Weaving Loom

Handmade Weaving Loom

You will need:

Wooden picture frame from Dollarama (sides must be wide enough that Popsicle sticks will attach securely, one inch or so)
Jumbo or regular sized Popsicle sticks
Children's or Adult scissors (if Adult, use under supervision)
Hot glue gun and glue (used by an adult)
Acrylic paint with dishsoap mixed in, so that it washes out of clothes
Paintbrushes
Smocks (optional)

Advance Preparation:

1. The kids can cut up their own popsicle sticks.  Make them long enough so that when they loop the string around, as shown below, the string will stay on, but the sticks won't break off.  About two inches.

Instructions:

1. Each child can pick a frame and must have a handful of 2" Popsicle stick ends.

2. Use hot glue to fix the sticks to the frame.  Point the rounded tips out, as the cut-off ends can be quite sharp.

3. Set up a painting station for the kids to decorate their frames.  Let them dry for a day.

All done!

Run time: approx. 60 min. plus drying time.
