Happy Mother's Day!
Mother's Day Bouquet
You will need:
Clear Plastic Cup (Safeway or other grocery store)
Fabric (I used a bed sheet from Salvation Army)
Twine (Home Depot)
Card Stock (Dollarama)
Flowers (Safeway: I used Baby's Breath and Daisies)
Scissors
Packing Tape/Glue Stick
Advance Preparation:
1. Cut up your strips of fabric into pieces that are 10" x 2". Make sure your fabric coordinates with the flowers you are placing in the arrangements. I gave the kids a choice between blue patterned fabric, pink patterned fabric, and a non-gender-specific yellow check.
2. Cut your lengths of twine long enough that they can wrap around the cup twice (30" or so).
3. Cut up your card stock into pieces that are 4" x 1". This will be for them to write "To: Mom," "From: Lacey," "I Love You" etc. on.
4. Buy your flowers ahead of time and transport them to the crafting site in water. Only cut when it is time to place them in the cup to maintain freshness.
Instructions:
1. Give each child a cup, piece of fabric, twine, card stock, and whatever type of adhesive you plan to use to stick the fabric on to the cup.
2. Apply tape (rolled up, sticky side out) or glue to the top half of the plastic cup. This will make sure that the fabric does not move while you are trying to wrap the twine around.
3. Stick your fabric on to the cup, all the way around, patterned side out.
4. Wrap the twine around the cup (I found that this step required some adult help). Double knot it and trim the ends of the twine to an inch or less from the knot.
5. Allow the kids to label their card stock how they choose. Help with spelling, etc. Slide the card stock underneath the twine so that it is held onto the cup.
6. Cut your flowers so that the stems are about 4" long. Allow the children to arrange their own flowers. Give them all the same amount for fairness!
7. Place a little bit of water in each cup. Remember that if it spills, it's only water!
All done!
Run time: approx. 30 min.
