September Art Projects

So, September is a busy month!  Who knew? Answer: everyone.

I am planning a few cool art projects for the communities that I am a part of.  The first one is a stained-glass window project for my church.  We are creating (parents and Sunday school students) one stained-glass window for every Sunday in the Advent Season (there are four).  We are using the themes that the church is using for these services.

I plan to use tissue paper, glued onto transparencies, and outline the project in heavy black paper.  I think that the sun shining through the windows of our simple little church, with the coloured tissue paper, will look amazing.

Here is my pattern:

The windows are very tall, and since the children making the art are a) pressed for time, and b) short, the project will only cover the bottom third of the windows.  Enough to create some beauty without stressing anyone out to produce tons of material.

The other project I have on the go is a jungle backdrop.  I am planning to paint a jungle scene on two bedsheets that can face one another in a corner of one of the rooms in my daycare.  This is the basic idea.

After the backdrop is painted, we will be making green vines by linking pieces of paper inside one another, like kids always do at Christmas.  After that, a few cardboard boxes will become nests and trees, some face paint will be applied, and it will be awesome!
