Bullitt (1968): Armchair (Time) Travel

I just watched Bullitt (1968) with Steve McQueen, dir. by Peter Yates.  It takes place in San Francisco.

There are a few places in the United States that I romanticize.  Greenwich Village in New York was one of my favorites as a teenager, since I saw myself as a misunderstood (of course) artist living in a small town filled with sports and agriculture, in desperate need of some artistic companionship.  Later came Portland as I realized, through the internet, that people out there were pretty crafty, pretty indie-trendy.  Most recently, I have become obsessed with San Francisco, as it seems to be as sunny as my native Manitoba, but with more hills and cuter architecture.  Never mind producing blogs like this one, and this one, which seem to point to the fact that cool people live in San Francisco.

So there were three reasons for watching this movie:

1. Relaxing with my husband;
2. Watching a police procedural, because watching ass kickers taking care of business is awesome;
3. Watching some vintage footage of a place that I admire, in a time period that produced some great fashion.

I realized during the movie that all of the furniture and the plants and the exposed brick walls are the precursor to

1. Design*Sponge decorating;
2. Wolseley.
