Globe Craft for children in Kindergarten to Grade 2

Make a globe using Styrofoam balls, felt, and tissue paper.

Globe Craft

You will need:

Styrofoam balls (Dollarama)
Blue Tissue Paper (Dollarama)
Green Felt (buy by the meter, from a fabric store, not a craft store, for best value)
Glue gun and glue sticks
Ribbon
Glue sticks for children's use
Scissors
World Map

Advance preparation:

1. Attach short loops of ribbon to each ball, so that the craft can be hung in a window.  Do this with a glue gun before giving the project to the children.

2. Cut up felt and blue tissue paper into squares approx. 4"x4".  This makes the materials easier to handle for the children.

Instructions:

1. Give each child a glue stick, pair of scissors, a ball, and several pieces of felt and paper.

2. Show the children a map of the world, so that they can mimic the wobbly lines that outline each continent.

3. Glue the tissue paper onto the ball using a glue stick.  Glue entire piece of each paper on to the ball, or trim loose edges with your scissor.

4. Cut out the continents using the green felt.  Glue them onto the ball using the glue stick.

All done!

Run time: approx 30 min.
